European Travel Trends – Summer 2025

What are the summer 2025 travel trends shaping city tourism in Europe?

For many, summer in Europe means beaches and coastal escapes.

But that’s only part of the story.

This season, more travellers are heading to Europe’s cities—drawn by culture, creativity, and the buzz of urban life. From open-air festivals and exhibitions to gourmet dining and sporting events, summer in the city is back in full swing.

Nearly 1 in 3 Europeans plan to take a city or cultural break within the continent over the next six months (source: ETC).

To understand what’s driving these shifts, The Data Appeal Company—in partnership with Mabrian (a Data Appeal company) —has analysed key summer 2025 travel trends using our destination management and marketing platform, D / AI Destinations. Together, we’ve examined seven top cultural capitals: Barcelona, Berlin, Copenhagen, Helsinki, London, Paris, and Rome.

Among the results, we found that culture remains the number one reason people visit cities—especially Rome, Paris, and Berlin. Meanwhile, interest in food is dipping slightly, as nature and active trips continue to gain popularity.
